The Department of Pediatrics and Adolescentswas opened at Kwangju Christian Hospital in1963. Since including a resident doctor in 1970, it has produced two or three pediatrics and adolescents specialists every year. Korea’s first chromosome analysis test and the region's first neonatal jaundice exchange transfusion were performed here. Based on 2009 records, out of 112 training hospitals in the children and adolescents specialty across the nation, the department marked a high medical ranking of 14th for out-patients and 7th for in-patients.
