History

1905   The opening of Jejungwon, Kwangju Clinic by Missionary Dr. J. W. Nolan.
1908   Missionary Dr. R. M. Wilson appointed as the second director.
1909   Start of specialized treatment for leprosy.
1911   New construction of the new medical building with a modern medical facility.
1912   New construction of the Kwangju Lepers Home.
1923   Opening of a dental office by Missionary Dr. J. K. Levie.
1930   Missionary Dr. L. C. Brand appointed as the third director. Start of specialized treatment of
    tuberculosis.
1940   Missionary Dr. J. F. Preston, Jr. appointed as the fourth director. Compulsory closure of the
    hospital by the Japanese Empire.
1951   Missionary Dr. H. A. Codington appointed as the fifth director. Reopening of Jejung Hospital,
    Kwangju.
1955   New construction of a new specialized tuberculosis ward.
1963   Reopening of the dental office by Missionary Dr. D. H. Neuisma.
1965   Accreditation as an intern training hospital and general hospital.
1966   Missionary Dr. W. L. Simpson appointed as the sixth director.
1967   Missionary Dr. R. B. Dietrick appointed as the seventh director.
1970   Name change to “Kwangu Christian Hospital.”
1976   Dr. HUH Chin-duk appointed as the eighth director.
1988   The opening of the Mother-Child Health Center.
1991   New construction of the Emergency Center and Comprehensive Medical Examination Center.
1996   Dr. KIM Ki-bok appointed as the ninth director.
1998   Dr. PARK Ju-sup appointed as the tenth director.
2000   Development of the Order Communication System(OCS).
2001   Building an extension and moving of the operation room, auditorium, intensive care unit,
    labor room, NICU, engine room, and substation.
2002   The eleventh director Dr. SONG Kyung-euy appointed.
2003   Opening of the Hospice Ward.
2004   Opening of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center and the Micro Reconstructive Surgery Center.
2005   Opening of the Day Surgery Center.
2006   Opening of the Children Rehabilitation Center.
2007   The twelfth director, Dr. PARK Byung-ran, appointed. Opening of Medical PACS(picture archiving
    and communication system).
2008   Opening of the Special Rehabilitation Center.
2015   New construction of the hospital lobby.
2017   Building an extension ward in the west wing. Opening of Jejung History Museum.
2018   Dr. CHOI Yong-soo was appointed as the thirteenth director. Registration as a Facilitator for
    International Patients, and operation of Comprehensive Nursing Care Service Ward.
2019   Introduction of the 3T MRI.
2020   Acquired third-level Medical Institution Certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare
    of the Republic of Korea.
